Being a Dragon for a Day!
The Equity Entrepreneur® Workshops are designed to do four things: three for investors, and one for entrepreneurs.
- Help entrepreneurs make their case successfully to a Funder
- Inform anyone about the plusses and pitfalls of Business Angel investing, and show how it can be both fun and profitable
- Guide the interested towards creating a profitable portfolio of fun and interesting companies
- Assist the committed to manage their portfolios to maximize cash profits in the shortest achievable time.
Workshop 1 – ‘Starting Out’
Objectives
- provide an insight into Business Angel investing for everyone
- give guidance on the financial and other attributes of those for whom Business Angel investing could be appropriate
- show how Business Angel investing can contribute to their portfolio and be both profitable and fun
- give guidance on the Tax and other advantages of Business Angel investing
- summarise the legislation surrounding Business Angel investing.
Method
- A 1 ½ hour presentation, including a short look at a couple of real case studies.
Workshop 2 – ‘Getting In’
Objectives
- provide an in depth understanding of the Private Investment process
- provide an understanding of how to recognise, assess and mitigate risks
- provide a toolkit for risk management
- provide a framework for deal assessment and filtering
- provide a toolkit for understanding entrepreneurial personalities
- provide a framework for deal valuation and negotiation.
Method
- Starting at 08.30, each Workshop takes a full day. Because there is so much to cover on the day, there is a lot of pre-Workshop reading needed to be done in preparation
- We follow the deal process and logic in sequence, with
- short plenary sessions lead by experienced Private Equity investors, interleaved with
- many small workgroup sessions to solve real issues arising in real cases
- backed up by detailed workbook notes and
- practical toolkits for immediate use with
- live presentations by real businesses; and each day closes with
- presentations from Networks and Clubs.
Workshop 3 - 'Getting Out'
Objectives
- provide an in-depth understanding of what to expect
- and how to manage the risks
- provide insight into the many factors that influence cash profits
- give guidance on engineering profitable exit strategies
- and give Business Angels a methodology for maximizing their cash profits
Method
- Starting at 08.30, each Workshop takes half a day. Because the sessions are very intensive, there is a lot of pre-Workshop reading needed to be done in preparation
- We start post-investment, and examine the various influences which we then
- Put into practice over six practical exercises with business simulations.
